Dental implants

What are dental implants?

Fact: In 1981, Dr Bonsall was the first British dentist to study, research and place titanium implants in Germany. Are dental implants for you? Imagine never again having to wear loose, removable “false teeth” or dentures!
The 3 pre-requisites for dental implants
  1. Sufficient volume – quantity – and quality of remaining Bone
  2. Sufficient Money to pay
  3. The Will and Desire to benefit from dental implants

What actually are implants?
Dental Implants are simply artificial titanium “roots – which firmly anchor and support your beautiful new teeth and crowns. The nerves around the dental implants allow you to “feel” when biting. You can exert up to 60 Kg of force on new implants. dental-implants2 Everyone can benefit from dental implants. Even those with massive lower mandibular jaw bone loss. The chin area always has enough bone to accept implants. We have several patients over 85 years old with fantastic new implants. We also have some patients of 21 years whose baby-teeth did not fall out, with implants too. There are few counter-indications -you only have to be able to sit still and collaborate while the dentist is implanting under anaesthesia. Smokers too can enjoy teeth implants – but the prognosis is not long term. This is also your opportunity to STOP smoking – or lose your new implants. A good swap. If you have no natural teeth to attach your new teeth, dental tooth implants can be used. Implants can take up to 60 Kg of chewing forces – more than sufficient! Implants are self-tapping pure titanium screws which fix firmly into the jaw bones. No guarantee is given that your implants will not be rejected. Expect around 95% success. If you got this much return on the Stock Market, would you be happy to invest your money there? Any biologically rejected implant will be replaced, free of charge, both by Dr. Bonsall and the implant manufacturing company. A rejected implant simply drops out, usually if at all, in the first 6 weeks after setting, like milk tooth, painlessly. If the bone quality is good, crowns can be placed on new implants immediately. Otherwise, I normally wait about 8 weeks, until the new bone has knitted around the implant, before placing crowns. It’s not necessary to wait any longer than this. Smoking reduces the longevity of implants. Stopping smoking when you get your implants, will finance your implants.
Supra-structure
supra-structure Crowns of porcelain and dentures, of cobalt-chromium, removable or not, can be placed on top of implants. Several supra-structures and price alternatives are available. Removable dentures, resin or porcelain fixed crowns can be provided on your new implants.
Is it painful?
Dental implants are surprisingly pain-free! Most patients usually give us back their pain-killers. Medication is given to stop infection and reduce any swelling.
Would implants work for me?
Everyone is different, so there’s only one way to find out if YOU ARE a good candidate for dental implants:- a private, in-person dental consultation. In your top, maxillary jaw, a 3-D CAT x-ray scan is provided, to check your bone volume and bone quality and to help in your treatment planning. In your lower, mandibular jaw, dental implants can be placed, even following severe bone loss. The longer you wait, the more bone you loose and the more difficult implants become. So. Don’t delay. Bone loss slows down by 200% when you have implants.
